The Lincoln County Health Department is using a measles confirmation as an opportunity to remind people about vaccinations.
Earlier this month 2 people in the state tested positive for the virus. Those people did have overseas travel, but returned to the state.
Prior to the vaccinations in the 1960’s, thousands of people experienced the virus yearly. Once regular vaccinations were introduced, the health department says the number stabilized below 100. In recent years, however, there has been a slight uptick.
Mindy Schwarz, Public Health Nurse for Lincoln County says, “Prevention through vaccination is a wise investment in a person’s health.”
Most people have been vaccinated, but you can check your status by contacting your health care provider or the Lincoln County Health Department.
