Frigid air from the North made yesterday, a record setting day.
According to the National Weather Service, many areas across the Northwoods saw their all-time lowest high temperatures for yesterday’s date.
Many of the previous records between 6 and 12 degrees were set in 1920’s. Yesterday much of the area struggled to reach 0. Those who did remained in the low single digits. Areas reaching record low highs include Rhinelander, Merrill, Tomahawk, Antigo and Wausau.
The National Weather Service in Green Bay says this was due to the intense arctic air mass dominating the Great Lakes Region. In fact, in Green Bay, they too set a record lowest High at 8 degrees. The previous record of 9 was set in 1888.
