The Merrill Fire Department worked with Public Service last night to investigate a temporary natural gas smell, but the source was not found.
At around 6pm last night, dispatch began receiving calls about the strong smell of natural gas near Highway K and Pope Road in the Town of Merrill. As responders approached that location they also could smell the odor.
Crews established a perimeter in that location and asked residents in that are to shelter in place.
After testing the entire interior of the perimeter WPS found little odor gas in the hazard zone and seemed to have dissipated from the initial area. WPS expanded their search zone, and after approximately 4 hours on the scene nothing could be pinpointed as the cause. The perimeter boundary was removed and emergency crews cleared the scene.
