The City of Tomahawk will once again take up their special assessment topic, with a special finance committee meeting this evening.
The Special Assessment Policy is the lone agenda item on tonight’s agenda. The policy in its current form was passed back in the fall of 2012. It received plenty of opposition from the public when it was first used for the North 4th Street reconstruction last summer.
The policy allowed the city to assess property owners adjacent to the construction for a portion of the cost. Some of those North 4th Street residents were billed up to $20,000 and spoke out. They were joined by other city residents at various city meetings including a public hearing session at SARA Park that had around 100 people.
The city has been working with the 4th Street property owners, but other areas of the city are also being affected. The Public Works Committee has held off on any of this year’s road plans until a resolution on the Special Assessment Policy has been reached.
That meeting takes place at 5:30 at City Hall.
