A Tomahawk volunteer group that provides rides is looking to upgrade their vehicle.
The Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers representatives were on hand at this week’s City Council meetings seeking the city’s word of support. They provide rides for the elderly or disabled, taking them to appointments such as a doctor or physical therapist.
Their volunteers had been providing the service using their private vehicles.
Now they are seeking a grant to provide a mobility van that would provide seating for six and for those with mobile disabilities. The state is providing the various vehicles.
TAIV would be responsible for 20% of the cost, about $6,500 which they are attempting to raise in short order. The deadline for the application is August 15.
While the city wasn’t in a position to provide any financial assistance at this time, they offered support for the application in the form of a proclamation.
