The Price County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of scam attempts involving a credit card.
Sheriff Brian Schmidt says they have received numerous reports of this scam attempt. It uses an automated system posing as Master Card, saying the account has been frozen and asks for the account number to restore services.
The Sheriff’s office recommends not giving out personally identifiable information or account numbers. Also monitor your money accounts for suspicious transactions. Perhaps the best advice is to always remain vigilant especially with unsolicited calls.
If you receive a questionable call contact your financial institution, law enforcement and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
