The Community Awards
Banquet, sponsored by the Tomahawk Leader and hosted by Inshalla Country Club
will be held on Sunday, May 18. A
social hour begins at 5:30 PM, with the dinner and program at 6:30 PM. Jeff Calhoun will provide classical
music throughout the evening.
Tickets are $17.00 for adults and $13.50 for youth age 18 and
under. Tickets are available at
the Tomahawk Leader and Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce or call
453-2151. Honored will be this
year’s winners of the Distinguished Service Award, Leadership Award, Employee
of the Year, Youth Leader of the Year and Community Appreciation Award.
The Dog Park
Committee is still accepting donations of pet supplies for the Dog Park Garage
Sale Fund Raiser on Saturday, May 24 in Tomahawk. Items from any kind of animal will be accepted. Small items can be dropped off at the
Chamber. Call 453-0010 for drop
off location for larger items or to arrange pickup.
The Sacred Heart
Hospital Foundation is pleased to offer five $1,000 scholarships to assist
students from the community with their education in a health care field.
Applications must be submitted by June 1, 2008 to be considered.
Application forms can be picked up at the Hospital’s greeter desk or from the
Administrative Assistant’s office at Sacred Heart Hospital. Please call 453-7770

Tomahawk High School
alumni have the chance to apply for three scholarships this year, including the
Charles Wilber Trust, which is open to any alumni. The Tomahawk Education Association scholarship is open to
any THS graduate majoring in education, and the THS Alumni Scholarship is open
to THS grads that are attending a four-year college or university, and have a
minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Applications are available from Nancy Herbison in the THS
Guidance Office.
The Rhinelander –
Northwoods Branch of the American Association of University Women will award
$1,000 scholarships in July. The
focus of the scholarships is to assist a student whose education was
interrupted following high school and who now wishes to continue studies at any
accredited school. Persons
interested in apply may obtain an application at local libraries. Candidates can also write to AAUW
Scholarship Committee, c/o Joyce Schroeder, 829 Lake Shore Drive in
Rhinelander, WI 54501. The
application deadline is June 15, 2008.
The Nicolet College
Learning Center in Tomahawk is open for adult basic education. The free
service offers instruction to people preparing to attend college, building
academic skills for the workplace, earning a GED or HSED, or learning to speak
English. The Nicolet Learning Center in Tomahawk is located in Grace
Lutheran Church, 108 W. Somo Avenue, and is open Tuesdays from 8:00 to 2:00 PM
and Thursdays from 10:00 to 4:00 PM. For more information call 365-4455.
The United Steel
Workers Local Union 2-248 from the PCA Tomahawk Mill will be holding there
monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 PM at the American Legion.
The Wa Wui Committee
will present another night of BINGO at the Sara Park Activity Center on
Wednesday, May 14. Doors open at 5:30, cards go on sale at 6:00 and the
first big bucks game is at 7:00 PM.
The weekly blackout progressive estimated jackpot will be at $600.00 in
50 numbers or less.
Open gym for men’s basketball
will continue on Wednesday, May 14 at the Tomahawk School District Fieldhouse
from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
The Tomahawk High
School Drama Department will be presenting “Aladdin and his Magical Lamp” on
Wednesday, May 14 in the school auditorium. Three shows will be presented during the day for elementary
and middle school students, and a 7:00 PM show will be available for the public
to attend at a cost of $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students and Senior
Citizens.
The Tomahawk Northwoods
Scarlett O’Hatters will hold a potluck and BINGO party on Thursday, May 15 at
11:30 AM at the Nokomis Town Hall.
The 2008 Northwoods
Shrine Club Circus will visit the Rhinelander Ice Arena on Thursday, May 15
with shows at 4:30 and 7:30 PM.
The cost for children 12 and under is $12.00, with adult admission
$14.00, tickets on sale one hour before show times at the ice arena box office.
St. Mary’s Hospital
Relay for Life Team will be holding a brat cookout on Friday, May 16 at the
Holiday Gas Station in Rhinelander from 10:00 to 2:00 PM. All proceeds will go to the American
Cancer Society.
The Lincoln County
Retired Educators Association will meet for a Noon luncheon on Monday, May 19
at Club Modern in Merrill. Jim and
Meg Harris will present the program on “We help war victims.” All retired administrators, teachers,

St. Mary’s School
spring rummage sale will be on Saturday, May 17 from 7:00 to 3:00 PM at the
Corpus Christi Center. The Young
Neighbors in Action will have a bake sale beginning at 7:00 AM and a brat fry
from 11:00 to 1:00 PM.
All you can eat
farmers breakfast will be held on Sunday, May 18 from 8:00 to 11:00 AM at St.
Mary’s Corpus Christi Center.
Everyone is welcome to attend and the cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00
for children age’s four to nine.
The Harshaw Sports
Club will host a Merchandise Shoot on Sunday, May 18 at the club on Rocky Run
Road. Trap shooting and sporting
clays for all ages and shooting levels.
The Moonspinners 4H
Club will hold a meeting on Sunday, May 18 at 6:00 PM at the Tomahawk Public
Library Community Room.
The Town of Bradley
Plan Commission will be holding there monthly meeting on Monday, May 19 at 6:30
PM at the Bradley Town Hall.
The monthly Tomahawk
Area Gardeners Meeting will be on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:00 PM at the Tomahawk
Community Bank.
The Minocqua First
Responders are hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, May 24 from
8:00 to Noon at the Bo-di-Lac Fire Station on Bo-di-Lac Drive in Minocqua. All you can eat pancakes with sausage

The Town of Nokomis
would like all veterans that reside in Nokomis to help participate in
dedication of the Veterans Memorial at Prairie Rapids Cemetery on Saturday, May

A boxcar parade and
races for kids age’s four to eight will be held on Saturday, May 24 from 10:00
to Noon. The event will be at
Tomahawk Third Street, between Wisconsin Avenue and Somo Avenue. Find your old tricycle or small
two-wheeler and transform it into a boxcar using cardboard boxes, with prizes
and trophies awarded. For more

A bowling contest
for all pre-teens ages 9 to 12, teens and adults will be held on Saturday, May
24 at Tomahawk Bowl from 12:30 to 2:30 PM. The cost of shoes and three frames will be $1.00 with three
different age categories.
The 14th
annual Main Street Memories Car Show, Craft Fair, and Sara Park Automotive Swap
Meet will be held on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25. The entire main street of Tomahawk will
be closed off on Sunday for the first major car show of the year, with free
admission. Over 60 trophies will
be awarded in more than 20 classes.
Celebrate Memorial
Day on Sunday, May 25 at Willow’s End Resort Shelter with the service at 11:00
AM. There will be a March and Gun
Salute by Veterans of all conflicts.
There will also be an ATV parade, with line up at 10:30 AM at Willow
Haven. Enjoy food, beverages,
games, an auction and raffle.
The German
Settlement History, Inc. will host a barn dance and silent auction on Sunday,
May 25 at 7:00 PM at Lind Farm, N1169 German Settlement Road in the Town of
Spirit.
The Friends of Lake
Mohawksin Annual Meeting will be held on Monday, May 26 at the Sara Park
Activity Center at 10:00 AM.

Tomahawk Area
Gardeners will host their annual plant sale and tool-sharpening event on
Saturday, June 7 at 8:00 AM at the Tomahawk Senior Community Center at 113
South Tomahawk Avenue in Tomahawk.
The Relay for Life Team for Mid-Wisconsin Bank will be holding a car wash on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00 to 1:00 PM in the bank parking lot in Rhinelander. All proceeds go to Rhinelander Relay for Life.

Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience,
strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and
help others recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for AA
membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues for AA
