General Announcements

The Nurses Closet at St. Paul Lutheran Church loans medical equipment to those in need at no charge.  If you have a need, call the church at 453-5391.  They also need your used items to provide more services to more people.  Call the church for free pick-up of your used equipment.

Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers wants to help area residents who are older than 62 years old, who are disabled or who care for someone who is elderly or disabled.  Services are free and confidential, call Jane at 453-4242.

Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce is holding the Big 10 Raffle to raise funds for the promotion of the area, with the first project a full color digital controlled billboard on Highway 51 northbound.  Tickets are $10.00 each and available from all Tomahawk Chamber members.  The grand prize is $10,000.00 with ten additional $1,000.00 winners.  Call the Tomahawk Chamber with questions at 453-5334.

Tomahawk Senior Center will have an exercise DVD at 8:30 AM, Wii Bowling at 9:30 AM, and Arthritis Exercise Class at 1:00 PM.

Catholic Schools Week continues at St. Mary’s Catholic School of Tomahawk with Grandparent’s Day, Mass at 10:00 AM, followed by a book fair, tour of the school and lunch.

Saturday, February 4

Lake Alice Association is hosting “Alice in Winterland” from 7:00 to 3:00 PM with registration beginning at 7:00 AM.  The cost is $5.00 per person and $10.00 per family.  There will be various prizes, kids prizes, raffles, door prizes and food and refreshments available all day.

The Wisconsin Trailblazers Sled Dog Club will host the ISDRA sanctioned Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race from 10:00 to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 9:00 to 3:00 PM.  The race start and finish line is at Prairie River Middle School on Highway 64 just east of Merrill.  Plus, River Valley Bank is sponsoring family fun activities on the grounds on Saturday.

The Lakeland ATV Club will be holding its annual Kind Gary Ice Fishing Jamboree from 9:00 to 4:00 PM.  The event will be held at the south-end of Squirrel Lake, 10 miles west of Minocqua off Highway 70 west.  Registration for each participant is $10.00 with prizes awarded.

Registration for five year old kindergarten at Tomahawk Elementary School Begins on February 6.  If you have a child who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2012, please call the Elementary School Office at 453-2126 to request a registration packet.

Registration for four year old kindergarten at Tomahawk Elementary School begins February 6.  If you have a child who will be four years old on or before September 1, 2012 please call the Tomahawk Elementary School Office at 453-2126 to request a 4K registration packet.

The local Cadette and Senior Girl Scout Troops 7212 and 7221 are collecting aluminum cans in the trails at Nelson’s County Market through February 14.  All funds will be used to help fun their trip of Washington DC.

TAX-AIDE assistance will be provided each Monday at the Tomahawk Senior Community Center, 113 S. Tomahawk Avenue from 10:00 to 2:00 PM.  TAX-AIDE assistance will be available through April 16, 2012.  For more information call Jeffrey West at 453-1374.

Tomahawk Ambassadors will meet at 8:00 AM at Ike’s Café in downtown Tomahawk.

Thursday, February 9

Tomahawk Public Library is hosting Play and Learn from 10:00 to 11:30 PM.  The drop-in program is open to all children and their parents and caregivers.

Spirit Baptist Church holding a Community Blood Drive from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the church, W1602 State Highway 86 in Ogema.  To schedule a donation appointment call Andy at 564-2419 and walk-in donors are welcome.

Nicolet College is hosting a series of free workshops designed to help budding entrepreneurs launch a small business.  The Explore Starting a Business workshop will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Tomahawk Community Bank.  To register, call 365-4492.

Trinity School, 611 W. Main Street in Merrill, will host a community fun night from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.  There will be special games and activities in all classrooms throughout the building.  Snacks will be served, and all children will receive a gift bag.

Friday, February 10

St. Mary’s Home and School is sponsoring the Father/Daughter Dance at the Corpus Christi Center.  The dance will be from 6:00 to 8:30 PM and is open to students in K-5th grade and the price per family is $5.00.  Tickets are available at St. Mary’s School Office or at the door.  TNT Entertainment is be DJ, and there will be snacks and raffles prizes.

Saturday, February 11

Gleason International Raceway hosting the 2012 Winter Experience at the Gleason Community Club in downtown Gleason.  Registration is from 11:00 to 1:00 PM with racing under the lights beginning at 2:00 PM.  Classes include:  quads, outlaw carts, junior races, factory carts, vintage sleds, modern sleds and bikes.  The cost is $15.00 per class and there will be food and refreshments on the grounds.

Northwoods Riders Snowmobile Club Hamburger Feed on the trails from 11:00 to 3:00 PM at the groomer garage just before the Nokomis Fire Station.

The 2012 Lions Club Fisheree and Winter Festival will be held on Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 22 on Boom Lake and Hodag Park.  The event will include the traditional fishing tournament, a broomball tournament, 5k snowshoe race, winter softball and snowshoe and cross country ski demo’s.  More information about these events can be found at www.rhinelanderchamber.com.

The Cat’s Pajamas vocal band will perform at 7:30 PM at the Tomahawk School District Auditorium.  Tickets in advance are $7.00 for students and $10.00 for adults and can be purchased from band and choir members or from Tomahawk High School Office.  Tickets at the door will be $8.00 for students and $12.00 for adults.

Preamble Alcoholics Anonymous

Preamble Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength, and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others recover from alcoholism.  The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking.  There are no dues for AA membership.  Meetings are held on the following days:
