Merrill Council to vote on resolutions for Hurd Superseal
Monday, September 26, 2011
Merrill's city council will vote
tomorrow on several steps to help bring Hurd Superseal to the city.
On the agenda at a special meeting is
the approval of a new Tax Incremental Financing district, the program for
funding the improvements to the district, and the approval to extend a
development loan to Hurd Superseal
using the money from the TIF district.
The new district is blight designated by the state as is any
property 50 years old. According to Mayor Bill Bialecki,
the west side of the city is in good condition but it could use some
improvement. City leaders say the money raised will go towards the new Hurd facility, as well as infrastructure projects and
repairs.
According to Bialecki the city had
planned about 12 years ago to give that whole west side a face lift and they
dug those plans back out.
The TIF district will remain in effect for 22 years, and is
projected to generate $2.1 million dollars worth of improvements over the life
of the project.
