A 16 year old Merrill teenager was
injured after a one vehicle rollover on Thursday evening in the Town of Pine
River. The teen called 911 after rolling his truck on a hill on Shady Lane at
around 10. The driver stated he suffered minor injuries but refused medical
transport; the passenger was uninjured. The deputy determined the truck was
traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle went airborne for over 200
feet before rolling three times. The driver admitting to going in excess of 75
mph trying to jump the hill. The deputy will submit a report to the DA for
possible criminal charges in the case.
A 65 year old Merrill man was arrested Friday in the town of
Corning. The response came after a report of a man with a gun. When deputies
arrived at the home on Greendale Drive they learned that an ongoing dispute
about marital property resulted in the male pointing a gun at the former female
resident and her companion. The man told deputies he was hiding on the property
after a neighbor reported a strange vehicle at the house earlier that day. The
man was arrested on disorderly conduct charges and brought to the Lincoln
County jail. He later posted bond and was released.
The sheriff's department is urging motorists to use extra
caution while driving, as the number of deer crashes are going up. 31 people
reported striking deer this week on Lincoln County road ways. Deputies say that
more bucks are being struck. Also with day light savings it is dark one hour
earlier as your travel home increasing your chances of striking deer. In
addition to the deer, a coyote and a bear were also struck and killed.
