BadgerCare Plus Basic One Strike Policy for
late payments
Monday, September 26, 2011
A state senator is warning
constituents of a one strike and you're out policy with BadgerCare Plus Basic
Plan.
Jim Holperin says that the state Department of Health
Services has instituted a "no exceptions" rule which ends
participation in the BadgerCare Plus Basic Plan for anyone late sending in
their monthly premium.
Holperin said he has been contacted by several individuals
whose premiums were late by a couple of days and their policies were canceled
outright, no questions asked, no exceptions allowed.
There are grace periods for those receiving Badgercare for
children and families, but those are subsidized by the state.
BadgerCare Plus Basic plan stopped accepting new applicants
in March and is being phased out over time. Those currently enrolled will
continue receiving coverage as long as they pay on time. Holperin said,
"The one strike and you're out policy is obviously designed to end the
program as soon as possible."
Last month the plan premium increased from $200 to $250 per
month.
