Tomahawk man sentenced for fifth OWI

Friday, September 30, 2011

A Tomahawk man was sentenced to three years in prison after his 5th drunken driving charge.

Lincoln County Judge Jay Tlusty sentenced 39 year old Scotty Coey after the incident in January. A trooper saw Coey speeding and noticed his registration was expired. He was taken in on his 5th offense OWI and also driving on a revoked license. He had his 17 year old son in the car with him at the time of the arrest.

In addition to the prison time, he will get three years on extended supervision, his license revoked three years and he must use an ignition interlock device on any car he drives.

Ignition interlock devices require drivers to be sober when they blow into a tube to start the car. The device will also randomly check the driver during the trip and disables the car if alcohol is detected.
