Unemployment rates improve in area
Thursday, December 22, 2011
The unemployment rate in both Lincoln
and Marathon Counties continued to improve.
According to state date released yesterday, Lincoln County's
jobless rate improved from 8.4% to 8.2% from October to November. During that
same time period Marathon County's rate fell 0.3% to 6.5%. In Oneida County the
rate rose slightly, but is still lower than November of last year.
The numbers are part of preliminary data from the state
Department of Workforce Development shows.
Throughout Wisconsin, all 12 metro areas had their unemployment
rates improve. Wisconsin’s total jobless rate was 7.3 percent in November.
The numbers do not include the more than 1,000 jobs announced
recently in central Wisconsin. It could take several months for the layoffs in
Brokaw and Mosinee to impact the central Wisconsin economy. The correlation
will depend on whether workers find a job immediately or begin collecting
unemployment benefits.
