Body recovered from Long Lake

On Saturday, August 8 at 10:50 am, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department dispatched the Three Lakes Police Department after the receipt of a 911 call to Honey Rock Camp at 8660 Honey Rock Road in the Town of Three Lakes for a report of a missing male camp counselor.

The Three Lakes Police Department, Three Lakes Police Department Canine Unit, Three Lakes Fire Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, Vilas County Sheriff’s Department Canine Unit, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin State Patrol Air Unit, Oneida County Emergency Management and a volunteer search and rescue canine and handler conducted an extensive search of the area.

After an extensive search of the area and the deployment of the canines, which directed the search to the water.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources deployed sonar and camera in the area of Long Lake in the Town of Three Lakes.  The Oneida County Dive Team was also activated and began a search of the lake.  At 9:25 pm, the Oneida County Dive Team recovered the body of the missing male counselor.

The victim is identified as 18-year-old Alexander J. Heidengren of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and a student at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois.

The incident remains under investigation by the Three Lakes Police Department and the Oneida County Medical Examiners Office.
