Alzheimer’s
Monday, December 26, 2011
Ministry
Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill received a grant to assist patients
with Alzheimer's disease.
The Merrill Eagle's auxiliary gave
the $1,000 grant, which will be used to purchase a variety of sensory
stimulation tools to help make patients as comfortable as possible so treatment
and diagnosis can happen in a timely and effective manner.
Jacquelyn Nefstead,
manager of Patient Care Services said, "Being in an unfamiliar setting can
intensify emotions , making it difficult for hospital
staff to care for the patients in a timely matter and allowing the patient to
get back to their familiar setting and caregivers as soon as possible.
Last year 110,000 Wisconsin residents
were diagnosed with the disease which is a 10% increase.
Ministry Good Samaritan president
Kris McGarigle said they are grateful for the continued support of the Merrill
Eagle Auxiliary, which enables the staff to be more effective
in treating patient's medical conditions.
