Accused Stevens Point professor to resign
Tuesday, December 27, 2011
A UW-Stevens Point professor accused of assaulting a student
during a field trip will resign at the end of the school year.
Meghan Buckley issued a resignation letter in September. She
has been re-assigned to non-classroom duties until the end of the year. The
letters were released last week due to an open records request by WSAU in
Wausau.
The letter from Buckley went on to
say, “Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to complete the research I have
conducted while at UW-Stevens Point. It has been a pleasure to be surrounded by
the support of the CNR faculty and staff.”
Investigators in Lincoln County have
referred Buckley to prosecutors on battery and disorderly conduct charges.
According to their investigation, Buckley hit student Wesley Shaw three to five
times in the face on a bus during a school field trip July 12th in rural
Harrison. Reports say Shaw began clapping when Buckley got on the bus after
looking for a group of students who had not returned.
Buckley has not been formally charged in the alleged incident.
