Marshfield Soldier killed in Afghanistan
Wednesday, December 28, 2011
A soldier from Marshfield died after a Christmas Day attack
in Afghanistan.
The Defense Department reported today that 27-year-old Staff
Sergeant Joseph Altmann died in Kunar province. Insurgents attacked his unit
with small-arms fire, according to the military.
His family is preparing to fly to Dover, Delaware for the
arrival of the body. Altmann served two tours in Iraq and had just re-enlisted
for another four years.
Governor Scott Walker released a statement in response to
Altmann's death. "While it is
disappointing to hear that an individual who was serving his third tour of duty
was killed on Christmas Day, Joseph now serves as a reminder of the sacrifices
made by our honorable service men and women all across the world each and every
day."
