Wausau approves firefighter contract
Wednesday, December 28, 2011
Following last week's union approval, Wausau City Council
members have now approved a new contract with the city's fire fighters.
The 3 year contract will freeze some wages the first year in
order to help save the city some money down the line. The department and the
unions were willing to agree to the cuts even though they were exempt from
recent collective bargaining changes.
The firefighters will also contribute what amounts to $60
more per pay check to their retirement accounts. The contributions will
continue to go up by a percentage each of the next 2 years.
The new contract will save the city over $170,000 without any
layoffs.
