Merrill Fire Department responds to chimney fire

The Merrill Fire Department responded its first fire of 2012 yesterday.

Units were called to a chimney fire at a single story home in the 700 block of Jefferson Street in Merrill. The Merrill Police Department reported that the homeowner had put the fire out using water. The incident happened at just after 5:30, and the department was only on the scene for a few minutes.

Merrill firefighters helped clean the chimney for the homeowners.
