Resolve to be Ready
Tuesday, January 3, 2012
An April tornado near Merrill has the Lincoln County
Emergency Management asking everyone to "Resolve to be Ready" in the new year.
The nationwide effort is designed to increase awareness as
well as encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to take
action and prepare for emergencies by taking important steps.
Those steps are getting an emergency supply kit, making a
family emergency plan and becoming informed of emergencies that can happen in
the state.
In 2011 alone, Wisconsin experienced a blizzard, 38
tornadoes, windstorms and a heat wave that killed five people. The EF3 tornado
in Lincoln County was the strongest in the state and left a path of 21 miles
with winds of 140 miles per hour.
Brian Sladek, director of the
Lincoln County Emergency Management says, "Emergencies can range from
inconvenient to devastating, but resolving to take easy steps now can minimize
the impact of an emergency on you, your family and your community."
He adds, "The moment disaster strikes
is the worst time to think about buying emergency supplies. Having food,
water, medications, first-aid kits, flashlights, battery-powered radios and
other items ready to go is essential."
Information about Wisconsin disasters, safety tips and
checklists to help make your resolution happen are available at

Resolving to lose ten pounds or reducing your debt is good
ideas but protecting your family through preparation is the best resolution of
all.
