The Oneida County Medical Examiner was put on administrative leave following her arrest Wednesday.

Traci England of Rhinelander appeared in court yesterday on charges of mishandling human remains. The 44 year old was arrested on Wednesday, accused of taking a spine from a cadaver without permission according to Oneida County District Attorney Michael Bloom.

According to the police report England took a human spine to help train a dog to find human remains. She told another officer about the cadaver remains which lead to her arrest, while she was traveling to investigate a case.

Misconduct of a public official is a felony offense and carries prison time according to the DA.

England was released from the jail on a $5,000 signature bond and will appear in court again on January 30. She has also been suspended as Forest County Medical Examiner, where she also serves.
