Northern Wisconsin man killed in house fire

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department says a 45-year-old man has died from injuries suffered in a fire at his northern Wisconsin home.

Capt. John Butler said Wednesday that firefighters were called to the home in Boulder Junction about 7:00 pm Tuesday with a father reporting him son, Richard Haag, was in the basement trying to put out a fire and hadn’t come out.

Butler says rescuers found Haag and transported him to a Woodruff hospital.  The victim was later flown to a trauma center in St. Paul, Minnesota where he died.

Butler says the cause of the fire, which was contained to the home’s basement, remains under investigation.
