Unique proposal in Merrill to save elementary
school
Thursday, January 12, 2012
A Merrill School Board member proposed an alternative to
closing Pine River Elementary School at their school board meeting last night,
by closing a different school.
Loretta Baughan suggested closing
Prairie River Middle school, moving 6th graders back to elementary and 7th and
8th graders moving to the high school. She says this move would save the
district money.
The board decided to move ahead with their current plan, but
said they would consider it in the future.
They did re-approve the decision to move their Head Start
program into the Pine River elementary school next year. That move is expected
to bring in some federal funding.
