Wausau Police cite man as ‘Social Host’
Monday, January 16, 2012
Wausau police have cited their first person under the city's
new social host ordinance.
Police say 23 year old Andy Buttke
was hosting an underage drinking party on New Years
Eve when police broke it up. Police cited a number of underage drinkers at the
party and Buttke as a social host.
Police say that Buttke told the
arriving officers he didn't want to be the guy to card people. Police said that
is the perfect time for the ordinance.
The new ordinance was passed by the Wausau City Council late
last year. It holds party hosts responsible for underage drinking and is geared
towards parents who host underage parties at homes, cabins, or hotel rooms.
Two counties and nine other cities or
villages in Wisconsin have passed similar ordinances. Kenosha police cited 13
people under their ordinance since it went into place last spring.
Buttke will make his initial appearance
before city municipal court January 24th.
