Tomahawk to enforce uniform sign code
Wednesday, October 5, 2011
Last year
the City of Tomahawk adopted a Uniform Sign Code. With the construction on
North Fourth Street and the hardships it created for businesses located in the
city, law enforcement was not pursued. In a news release, they announced that
with construction being completed the city would ask each merchant and resident
to review their compliance with the ordinance.
Free standing and wall signs erected
before July 6 of last year generally are not affected by the ordinance, until
they are replaced or the cost of repairs exceeds 50% of the value.
Any person who violates or fails to
comply with any of the provisions is subject to the penalties contained in the
zoning code.
The full ordinance is available on
the city website and at the clerk’s office. Specific questions about the
Uniform Sign ordinance may be directed to the clerk's office or the building
inspector.
