Safe on fire in Merrill

The Merrill Fire department responded to a smoldering item, that turned out to be a safe.

A Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy reported the smoldering item in the parking lot of the Merrill School Forest in the Town of Rock Falls. A fire engine was dispatched at just before 7:30.

After investigating the item was determined to be a safe that someone had set on fire, after breaking into it.

The sheriff's office is treating it as a crime scene.
