Fire destroys home
Friday, February 12, 2010

On Thursday February 11, 2010 at 9:51 AM a passing motorist reported a possible structure fire on State Rd 86 near Zenith Tower Rd. Tomahawk Firefighters along with Deputies and the Nokomis Fire Department all responded.

When a Deputy arrived a short time later he found the home at W8477 State Rd 86 engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from both departments fought the fire for several hours. The elderly occupant of the home, August Swenson and his wife Leona were at home when the fire started but were able to escape without injuries. They told the fire department they suspect the fire started near their wood stove.

The house is a total loss; the Swenson’s have no insurance. The Salvation Army and family members are assisting them.

As of 3:30 PM firefighters remain on the scene, no foul play is suspected. State Rd 86 was restricted to one lane of traffic for most of the late morning and early afternoon as firefighters hauled water to the fire.
