Man killed in
snowmobile accident
Monday, February 22, 2010
On Saturday, February 20,
2010 at approximately 12:31 p.m., the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department 911
Center received several emergency calls reporting a snowmobile accident with
injuries. The accident was
reported to be on a snowmobile trail just off Fox Road, in the township of Lake
Tomahawk. Emergency personnel
from, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin DNR, Oneida County
Ambulance, Lake Tomahawk Fire Department and the Oneida County Medical
Examiners Office were dispatched to the scene with Deputies arriving on scene
at 12:32 p.m.
The
snowmobiler, Grant R. Folland, age 29 of Okemos Michigan and Manhattan New York
was pronounced dead at the scene.
The
preliminary investigation indicates that Folland was an inexperienced snowmobile
driver. It appears that Folland
lost control of the snowmobile and struck a tree adjacent to the snowmobile
trail. Folland was driving the
fourth snowmobile in a group of five snowmobiles. The spacing of the snowmobiles was such that the accident
was not witnessed. Alcohol is not
considered to be a contributing factor in the accident.
The
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Oneida County EMS, Town of
Lake Tomahawk Fire Department, assisted the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office at
the scene and the accident report will be completed by the Wisconsin DNR.
