Seven hospitalized in Birnamwood crash

Seven people were sent to the hospital following a 3 vehicle crash yesterday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Highway 45 near Birnamwood at around 4:30.

The sheriff's department report says a pick-up truck attempted to pass a car in the southbound lanes. The pick-up hit a northbound SUV, and then hit the car it was trying to pass.

The pick-up driver was a 38-year-old Appleton man. He, his wife, and 1-year-old child were hurt. The driver of the SUV and three children inside were also injured. Their conditions are not known.

The pick-up caught on fire after the crash. Other drivers put it out by shoveling snow on it. The crash remains under investigation.
