Monday, January 23, 2012
Following an investigation, Lincoln
County deputies filed more charges against the 4 men accused of breaking into
the Dugout Bar near Merrill last week. A resident on Tug Lake Rd. reported his
home was broken into overnight and a safe was stolen and later recovered by
investigators. A resident on Wilderness Driver in Rock Falls reported his
vehicle entered with items stolen. The Investigators were able to connect the
four individuals to this incident. As a result charges of burglary, criminal
damage to property and theft were added to each.
A 14 year old Illinois boy suffered
minor injuries after he struck a tree with a snowmobile Friday evening. The
crash occurred north of highway U on the Hiawatha trail at just after 7:00pm.
The boy said a sled heading the opposite direction blinded him with its bright
light on. He was attempting to pull over to the side of the trail when he
struck the tree. He was brought to the hospital where a helicopter responded
but was not needed. He was treated and released.
A 19 year old Gleason woman was taken
into custody after a traffic stop early yesterday
morning in the city of Tomahawk. A deputy stopped the woman on Second Street
after he observed her driving without a seatbelt and also making several abrupt
turns before parking suddenly at the intersection. The woman displayed signs of
impairment and was placed through field sobriety tests. As a result she was
taken into custody on a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while
intoxicated. She was later released to a responsible party.
A 34 year old Merrill man was taken
into custody yesterday after a Deputy responded to a report of a suspicious
vehicle in the Town of Corning. A caller reported a vehicle parked in the
middle of the roadway on Leafy Grove Road at 5:00am. When the deputy arrived,
the man was sleeping behind the wheel, and the vehicle was running. After being
woken up by the deputy the man was asked to perform a field sobriety test. As a
result of the test, he was taken into custody on a third offense of operating
while intoxicated.
A 17 year old Merrill Man is in the
Lincoln County Jail after the Rec. Deputy investigated a snowmobile crash
Sunday morning in the Town of Birch. A Deputy on patrol found a snowmobile that
had struck a power pole on County Rd. J near Grundy Road at just after 11:00am.
A short while later, the owner of the sled reported the 2001 Polaris was
stolen. When the Rec deputy spoke with the 17 year
old, he confirmed the sled was stolen the night before, but eventually
confessed to taking it from his relative and striking the pole the previous
night. He was taken into custody for the misdemeanor charge of obstructing and
was brought to the jail where he was held on a probation violation.
The number of car/deer crashes
remains fairly low with only 4 being reported this past week on Lincoln County
Roadways.
