Banned book on Merrill agenda

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

A book objected to by some Merrill parents will be on the school board agenda Thursday.

The board will decide if the book, Montana 1948, is appropriate for the high school curriculum. The book, written by a UW-Stevens Point author deals with themes of rape and suicide. The book has been part of the sophomore curriculum for the past 12 years. Some parents say the topics are inappropriate for 14 and 15 year olds.

The school board will hear public comments at the 5:30 meeting on Thursday. Board members are reading the book prior to that meeting.
