Wausau woman killed by train identified
Monday, October 10, 2011
Wausau police have released the name
of a woman killed by a train in Gilbert Park early Saturday morning.
Police identified 57-year old Eugenie Buerger, a nearby
resident in the area, based on the clothing she was wearing at the time of the
accident.
The conductor of a southbound train called police at about
6:30 am. Saturday to report her body, which was laying on the railroad tracks.
Crews on a Canadian National Train told police they thought
they ran over debris or trash around midnight when they were traveling
northbound to the Tomahawk area. On the way back, the conductor saw that they
actually ran over a woman.
Police are still not sure what Buerger was doing near the
railroad tracks, nor if alcohol was a factor. Foul play is not suspected. The body
was taken to Madison for an autopsy, and a full toxicology report could be back
within two weeks.
