Body of missing Point student recovered
Tuesday, March
66, 2012
Yesterday
afternoon, divers recovered the body of a UW-Stevens Point student that had
gone missing.
Hundreds
of people had been searching for Eric Duffey, who was
last seen leaving a Stevens Point bar at around 1:00am Saturday morning. His
body was found in the Wisconsin River at just after 1:00pm yesterday.
Earlier in
the morning, searchers had changed from a search to a recovery mission after a
K-9 team was lead to the river. They also worked with the dam operator in the
area at the time.
Duffey was a wildlife ecology
major in his junior year at Stevens Point. He was celebrating his 21st birthday
on Saturday. Authorities will continue to investigate and believe alcohol may
have been a factor.
Police
said he was apparently walking home at the time. He had texted that message to
friends the night he went missing.
