Busy day for Merrill Fire and EMS

Monday, March 26, 2012

Late last week, Merrill Fire and EMS had one of their busiest days in some time.

At just before 10:00am Friday they received a 911 call and EMS was dispatched; just a few minutes later they received a second call. While both those units were still out, a third ambulance call came in.

While all three of their ambulances were out, a fourth call came in for a lifting assist. Several off-duty personnel responded to that call. Two more calls came in during that hour.

Within an hour and 21 minutes the Merrill Fire Department treated 6 different patients from 6 different calls.

Captain Bob Akey credited cross-trained firefighters and EMT's. He also said, "We were really lucky we had a full shift of 7 personnel working today."

As 4:00pm rolled around, crews had responded to 9 calls during the 24 hour shift.
