Merrill resident falls asleep, causes fire

The Merrill Fire Department responded to a fire yesterday after the resident fell asleep.

The small fire occurred around 9:00AM at an apartment on Jackson Street in Merrill. A maintenance worker at the building woke the man, who had fallen asleep while warming food on the stove. The Maintenance person also helped others evacuate.

There was minimal damage to the apartment, however smoke filled the entire unit and the hallway. They were on the scene for just under an hour.
