Merrill student recognized
Monday, April 16, 2012
A student from Merrill was recognized
this morning for his acts of courage.
The Merrill Fire Department honored Pine River Elementary
second grader Cole West-Hansen at today's assembly.
West-Hansen was alone with his mother when she went into
labor last month. Emergency personnel were dispatched, and Captain Mike Drury
said, "not only did Cole make the call, he went
back to his mother's side to help her until we arrived."
Fire chief Bob Odegard said they
not only want to honor West-Hansen, but let students know how important they
can be in an emergency situation.
To ensure kids handle emergencies properly, firefighters
across the country work with schools and the students. Last year Merrill
Firefighters reached out to over 1,200 students in their jurisdiction.
