Search of school
premises in Tomahawk
Friday, October 21, 2011
On Thursday, the Tomahawk Police
Department in cooperation with the school district, conducted a drug search of
the school premises. Two drug dogs searched the middle and high school lockers,
locker rooms storage areas and parking lots. The search resulted in one case of
marijuana and drug paraphernalia found in a car, with no drugs found in the
building.
The drug search was part of an ongoing attempt to raise
awareness of drug and alcohol abuse by school aged children and keep the
district drug free. The school and police are working together to plan for
additional drug searches through out the year.
The school district encourages parents to talk to their
children about the search and about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. In
addition, if parents or students are aware of drugs or alcohol on the school
premises, they are encouraged to contact and administrator or another district
staff member. Those contacts will remain confidential.
