Packaging Corporation-Tomahawk Mill Nursing Position:

Position Summary:  Develops and administers the Occupational Health Program for PCA Tomahawk under the direction of the Employee Health & Safety Manager.  This includes medical examinations, health care, medical surveillance, disability and leave management, health education, health and safety related training, administrative duties, and wellness program management.

Dimensions:  The Nurse interacts with 100% of the workforce through preventive occupational health activities (such as hearing conservation program annual testing), approximately 20% of the workforce through emergency response team physical pre-screening, approximately 20% of the workforce through health services training courses, and approximately 35% of the workforce through treating occupational and non-occupational injuries or conditions.  The Nurse is responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of medical supplies and the various pieces of occupational health equipment while working within an established budget.

Principle Accountabilities: 

  • Manage spirometry and hearing conservation programs, including yearly audiometric testing of all employees.
  • Work with contract physician to provide medical services to employees.
  • Serve as company representative for Employee Assistance Program, ADA, FMLA, Workers Compensation, short term disability, alcohol and drug testing, and return-to-work programs. 
  • Conducts new hire orientation in regard to the health services department.  Provides regular first aid, CPR, and blood-borne pathogen training, including Hep B program management.
  • Manage health services for all employees and provide first aid & emergency services as needed.
  • Participate on safety teams, including, Emergency Response, etc.
  • Organizes, stocks, and maintains treatment room and first aid kits; maintains emergency treatment equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains medical record files relative to group and workers compensation insurance for all employees.
  • Monitors workers compensation, FMLA, and disability cases; acting as a liaison between company, employee, physician, and third-party workers compensation and leave administrators to ensure satisfactory progress in patient’s condition.
  • Recommends and develops programs for employee wellness, disease prevention, and detection.  Maintains wellness boards monthly with fresh topics.
  • Review, update, and maintain essential job function reports.
  • Responsible for monitoring, scheduling and communicating annual HazMat physicals, coordinating with occupational physician.
  • Utilize corporate task management program to track completion of critical activities.
  • Know and follow policies and procedures of the company, share information that would benefit other members of the team and find ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Decision Making:  The Nurse has the ultimate responsibility to act in the best interest of the employees and the company to make well-informed, professional decisions regarding occupational health and trauma response.  The Nurse must ensure that occupational health requirements and standards are being met through the programs implemented by the Health and Safety Manager.  When deficiencies are observed, the Nurse must be able to effectively communicate the issue and offer practical solutions for resolution.  The Nurse must be able to engage with employees reporting occupational injuries and develop a case management plan.  For acute trauma response, the Nurse must be able to think quickly, make decisions with confidence, and act without hesitation to ensure the injured employee receives the necessary treatment.

Interactions with Customers and Contacts:  The Nurse must maintain relationships with internal and external customers.  The Nurse is the facility’s medical professional and employees rely on the Nurse to provide medical advice and treatment that is accurate, respectful of personal privacy, and communicated in a calm, clear, and concise manner.  The Nurse must be able to effectively work with a third-party provider to actively manage worker’s compensation claims to ensure the employee is receiving the necessary treatment and that timely progress is being made toward recovery and full duty return to work.  The Nurse is responsible for establishing a return-to-work plan with the affected employee and direct supervisor to ensure effective work-hardening and limited risk to re-injury.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Must be licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin and have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Abilities/Skills: Excellent organizational, computer (MS Office), interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required. Must have the ability to work well with others in a team environment. Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR, audiometric technician, and spirometry certification. Must be flexible with work hours and be available by phone during off hours. Excellent time management skills required to effectively use time to accomplish required responsibilities. Must have the ability to set high personal standards of performance and goals, while working under minimal supervision. 

Position Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3 years’ occupational health experience. Experience with Workers Compensation, Case management and OSHA.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary range for position: $70,000 - $90,000.
  • Paid Vacation: Three (3) weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year. 
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision – and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
