The Tomahawk Hatchet Football Team defeated Cadott 46-2 on Friday night in non-conference action.
With the win, Tomahawk improves to 4-3 overall.
Dane Borchardt had 109 yards rushing and four touchdowns, and Kaleb Kaminsky was 14-20 for 326 yards and three touchdowns.
Tomahawk will travel to Prentice on Friday night to take on the Rib Lake/Prentice Hawks with the opening kickoff at 7:00 pm. The Fehrman Orthodontics Coaches Show is at 6:35 pm on WJJQ-FM.
Tomahawk made their second appearance in a month at Nine-Mile Forest in Rib Mountain as they competed in the 11-team Edgar Invitational. Despite having 33 out of 35 Hatchets improve their 5K times from earlier in the month on the same course, both the Tomahawk boys and girls placed second behind teams from Medford and Mosinee respectively.
Tomahawk’s Dani Whiting picked up her first invitational title of the season as she cruised to a seasonal best 20:16 clocking over the distance. She took the lead at 400 meters and ran a strong race from the front throughout, outdistancing her nearest competitor by over 150 yards. Joining her on the podium were teammates Maggee Renn (15th-22:08 P.R.) and Lizebeth Edwardsen (16th-22:13 P.R.) as medalists. Other Hatchet varsity finishers were: Kate Krueger (30th), Rylie Swan (35th), Lauren Bauman (40th) and Susan Waye (41st).
Troy VanStrydonk led a tightly grouped “pack” of Hatchets to the tape for the varsity boys with his 6th place 17:34 seasonal best effort. He was followed closely by Alex Johnson (7th-17:52), Mason Webster (8th-17:53), Cayton Scholz (10th-18:02), Lucas (11th-18:04), Kyle Klopatek (20th-18:42), and freshman Evan Ploeckelman (24th-18:53).
In the evenings final event, both Junior Varsity squads won invitational championships. A “1-2-3-5-6” finish by Justin Jarvensivu (18:56), Erik Zedler (19:30), Jakob Panzer (19:31), Brett Gerber (19:57), and Luke Olson (20:05) gave Tomahawk a convincing title and nearly a “slam” as they scored a low team total of 17 points. Other JV finishers for the boys were: Jared Leverance (12th), Sam VonSchrader (13th), Josh Wick (15th), Nathan Goehe (16th), Blayden Conrad (17th), Carl Theiler (18th), Kyle Theiler (19th), Daniel Hanke (26th), Kole Svacina (30th) and Billy Hurlburt (33rd).
The girls edged Mosinee by 2 pts for the JV team title and were led by Sara Kouba (4th-24:33). Other lady Hatchet JV finishers were: Rylie Flohr (5th), Taylor VanStrydonk (6th), Morgan Waye (9th), Jackie Wick (11th), Brittany Jachinsky (13th), and newcomer freshman Arianna Schreiner (22nd).
ext meet is Tuesday as Tomahawk travels to Eagle River for the annual Eagle Invitational. Meet gets underway at 4:00.
The Girls Swimming Team defeated Lakeland 100-70 in a Great Northern Conference Dual at the Tomahawk Swimming Pool on Thursday. With the win, Tomahawk improves to 4-0 in the GNC.
Tomahawk won the 200, and 400 freestyle relays and the 200 yard medley relay. The Hatchets also got first place finishes from Katy Volz in the 100 yard butterfly and 100 yard backstroke, and Rachel Dallman in the 100 and 50 freestyle.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Volleyball Team defeated Auburndale on Saturday, three games to none.
Game scores were: 25-17, 25-18, 25-18
Hanna Meyer had 13 kills, 9 digs and 6 aces, Courtney Theiler had 9 kills and Becca Doughty had 37 assists.
