The Tomahawk Hatchet Girls Basketball Team on their home opener on Tuesday night, with a 38-37 victory over Rib Lake at the Fieldhouse.
Tomahawk led 12-6 after the first and 23-18 at the half. Tomahawk built an eight point lead after three quarters, and hung on for the victory.
Jessie Harmon had 17 points and 7 rebounds, Taylon Jones had 10 points and Devin Swan had 7.
Tomahawk will travel to Laona on Friday night for another non-conference game, with the opening tip at 7:30 pm.
The Hatchet Boys Basketball Team lost a non-conference game at DC Everest on Tuesday night, 49-44. With the loss, Tomahawk falls to 2-2.
Jared Jarvensivu and Fletcher Schoone led Tomahawk with 13 points, Jordan Roessler had nine.
Tomahawk will host Rhinelander at 7:30 pm on Friday night at the Fieldhouse. The broadcast can be heard on Northwoods 92-5, with the coaches show at 7:05 pm.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Girls Hockey Team lost to Rhinelander / Antigo on Friday night, 2-0.
Erin Sparks had 36 saves.
Tomahawk is now 1-1 on the season.
The Hatchets will play at Hayward on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Boys Hockey Team fell to 0-6 on the season with a 7-1 Great Northern Conference loss at Northland Pines on Tuesday night.
Jakob Panzer scored the Hatchet goal in the third period, with an assist by Cole Hoepner.
Tomahawk will host Waupaca on Thursday night for Great Northern Conference action at 7:00 pm. The coaches show will begin at 6:35 pm on WJJQ, with the opening faceoff at 7:00 pm.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Wrestling Team defeated Athens in a non-conference dual meet at the Fieldhouse on Tuesday night, 56-21.
Tomahawk had fwins from Nate Flohr at 145, Quinton Wallenfang at 160, Kaleb Kaminski at 170, Henry Helland at 195, Jake Borchardt at 220, John Rupel at 285, Tasha Carstensen at 106, Blake Carstensen at 113, Cullen Wegener at 120 and Tim Pennington at 126.
Tomahawk will host Ashland on Thursday night at the Fieldhouse for a non-conference dual. The opening match is at 7:00 pm.
Tomahawk Boys Swimming Team finished defeated Medford on Tuesday night, 106-37 in Great Northern Conference Swimming action.
Tomahawk had first place finishes by Nate Goehe in the 200 and 500 free, Aslan Thinkohkaew in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, Phoenix Ehn in the 100 free, Logan Loretz in the 100 breaststroke, and Tomahawk won all three relays.
Tomahawk will travel to Lakeland on Tuesday night, with the opening event at 5:30 pm.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Football Team played a “Futures Game” on Friday night at Hatchet Field against the Rhinelander Hodags.
The Hatchets beat Rhinelander 48-0 to end their season with two straight wins.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Girls Swimming Team finished in second place at Saturday’s Division Two WIAA Sectional at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point. The Hatchets scored 306 points, with Ladysmith capturing the sectional title with 326 points.
Tomahawk will send four events to the 2013 WIAA State Swimming Championship on Friday at the UW Natatorium in Madison. Freshman Lauren Hilt set new school records in her wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Tomahawk also won the 200 freestyle relay (Hilt, Morgan Weber, Baylee Dallman and Michaela Galganski) and 400 freestyle relay (Hilt, Weber, Katherine Russell, Mikhayla Kleich).
Other top finishes came from: Morgan Weber a second in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free, Katherine Russell a fourth in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Mikhayla Kleich a fourth in the 500 free, Karli Cecil was fifth in the 100 butterfly and Annaluz Fox was fourth in diving.
The 2013 WIAA State Girls Swimming Championships will begin at 6:30 PM on Friday at the UW Natatorium in Madison.
The 2013 Great Northern Conference All-Conference Team has been announced on Lauren Hilt of Tomahawk is the Swimmer of the Year. Hilt was First All-Conference in the 200 free, and 100 free. Also on the First Team with first place finishes at the Conference Meet were: Morgan Weber and Katherine Russell.
On Saturday Tomahawk’s Dani Whiting and Bryan Tomek competed in the 101st running of the Division 2 State Cross-Country Championships at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
Sophomore Dani Whiting got things started first for the Hatchets as she placed 79th of 151 runners in a time of 16:29 over the 4000 meter course. She was the 22nd sophomore to cross the finish line at Rapids. Other area athletes in the D2 race were Lauren Schilling from Lakeland (19th) and Katie Klappa- Lakeland (31st).
Bryan Tomek completed a four-year individual stint at State with an outstanding 9th place finish in a time of 16:29. By virtue of his top ten finish Bryan participated in the ‘Walk Of Champions’ in the Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln fieldhouse in front of nearly 3500 Cross-Country fans. He received his medal from members of the WIAA Board of Control and Executive Committee. The other lone GNC athlete to compete in D2 was Andrew Schilling from Lakeland, he finished 29th.
The 2013 Great Northern Conference All-Conference Teams have been announced on Tomahawk Senior Bryan Tomek is the GNC Runner of the Year and Troy VanStrydonk was Second Team All-Conference.
On the girls side, Dani Whiting was First Team All-Conference and Claire Kuehn, Emmy Larson and Talyn Jones were Second Team All-Conference.
Tomahawk Hatchet Volleyball Team has their 2013 season come to an end in the WIAA Sectional Semi-Final, as Altoona defeats Tomahawk three games to two. The games scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 17-25 and 11-5. Altoona advances to the Sectional Final and will play against Osceola on Saturday night. The Hatchets finish the season with a 38-4 record.
On Thursday night, Anna Nyberg had 23 kills, Becca Doughty had 50 assists, Hanna Doughty had 11 kills and Alex Duplayee added 10 kills.
The 2013 Great Northern Conference All-Conference Team has been announced on Tomahawk Junior Anna Nyberg is the Player of the Year and First Team. Becca Doughty was also First Team All-Conference. On the Second Team are: Alex DuPlayee, Hanna Meyer and Hanna Doughty. Amanda Schneider and Emily Schneider was Honorable Mention All-Conference.
