The Hatchets lost to Stratford on Friday night, 13-0. The Tigers led 7-0 after the first and at half-time, and added another touchdown in the third quarter.
Tomahawk had 43 yards rushing and 27 yards passing on the night.
The Hatchets will host Marathon on Friday night at 7:00 pm, with the Fehrman Orthodontics coaches show at 6:35 pm on WJJQ-FM.
The Tomahawk Hatchet Girls Swimming Team defeated Rhinelander on Thursday night, 112-57 in a Great Northern Conference Dual
Tomahawk won the 400 free and 200 free relays. Tomahawk also had first place finishes by Baylee Dallman in the 100 back, Lauren Hilt in the 100 free and 200 free, Karli Cecil in the 500 free, Rachel Dallman in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, Morgan Weber in the 500 free, and Katherine Russell in the 100 fly.
Tomahawk will host Wittenberg Birnamwood on Thursday, with the opening event at 5:30 pm.
For the 21st straight year the Tomahawk Cross-Country team traveled to Fall Creek to compete against 14 other schools in their annual “Knudtson Invite”. For the second year in a row and 11th time in the last twelve years Tomahawk brought home the overall combined score team traveling trophy. Noteworthy, also that the locals were able to win all four high school races to complete their first sweep in nearly a decade at the event.
Junior Dani Whiting won her second invitational of the season as she cruised to victory by nearly a minute over her nearest competition covering the 5000 meter hilly and challenging course in 20:12. She was joined on the podium by senior Claire Kuehn as she placed 8th in a time of 22:54. The lady Hatchets amassed a low team score of 47 points, outdistancing their nearest competition Eau Claire Regis (79 pts) and the host Fall Creek Crickets (85 pts) for top honors. Other top finishers for the 1st-place girls were:
Emmy Larson (11th), Talyn Jones (14th), Maggee Renn (18th), Alex Zedler (21st), and Kate Krueger (43rd) in the 75 runner varsity field.
The boys started Tomahawk off on the right foot in the first race of the day as they bested Liberty Christian (82 pts) and state-ranked Colfax (102 pts) to capture their first invitational title of the season as the Hatchets scored 76 pts. Senior captain Tyler Wittmann once again was the top Hatchet garnering medalist honors with his 7th place effort covering the 5000 meter course in 18:58. Other scorers for Tomahawk were: Austin Kaiser (13th), Jacob McGuire (15th), Lucas Tjugum (18th), Andrew Olson (23rd). Sophomore Erik Zedler was instrumental in helping the Hatchets to the title as he served to inflate Liberty Christians team score by finishing 6 placers ahead of their 5th scoring athlete with his 32nd place finish.
Both junior varsity squads showcased the Hatchet depth as the girls scored a perfect 15 points and the boys scored 17 pts for their team titles. JV Co-Ed Medalists for Tomahawk were: Alex Johnson, competing for the first time this season, (1st-20:30), Jared Kiander (2nd-20:40), Susan Waye (2nd-25:22), Jared Jarvensivu (3rd), Rylie Swan (3rd), Rylie Flohr (4th) and Cayton Scholz (4th). Other finishers for Tomahawk in their respective races were: Lauren Bauman (6th), Morgan Webster (7th), Russell Collins (8th), Taylor VanStrydonk (11th), Sara Kouba (12th), Kayla Gass (13th), Morgan Waye (14th), Adrianna Schultz (16th), Sebastian Bauer (19th), Chris VanStrydonk (20th), Josh Wick (21st), AJ Zey (26th), Jakob Panzer (29th), Carl Theiler (30th), Kyle Theiler (31st), Daniel Hanke (35th), and Cole Svacina (49th).
Next meet is Saturday as Tomahawk competes in the prestigious 60-team Smiley Invitational at the American Legion Country Club on the north side of Wausau. Racing gets underway at 8:20am with the boys JV D2/3 combined race.
