WJJQ SNOWMOBILE REPORT
Join Northwoods 92-5, WJJQ for our live snowmobile reports at 7:30 am, 12:30 pm and 5:10 pm. (Updated 2/21/20)
It's looking like a great weekend of riding in this last full weekend of February.
The snow and the cold earlier this week allowed the clubs to get the trails in as good of shape as they've been all season. The land trails are smooth. The trails away from the well-traveled areas are best.
The lakes and swampy areas are still a bit rough because of the frozen slush. Groomers can't get to them, but they run as close as they can to keep those segments short.
Even with the mild temperatures in the forecast this weekend, there is a decent base that should hold up. In the afternoons, the trails will likely get a bit soft.
Heading into the weekend, we're calling the trails VERY GOOD to GOOD.
Knight Owls: With a fresh snow fall, trails still remain very good. Cold weather has really helped. Corridor 19 has a re-route using Newwood Rd. and 4 Mile Rd. Lakes are improved. Please STAY on the trail, we have had way too much off-trail riding with some very upset landowners. Remember NO ATVs when temp. is above 28 F.
Northwoods Passage: With a few inches of snow this week, trails are in very good condition with the exception of a few swamps. They are still not solid enough for a groomer, but we do groom up to both sides of those areas. Groomers are running regularly. Use caution on water crossings. The slush and standing water are now frozen, but it may be rough. Stay close to barrels and poles when crossing water. We cannot emphasize enough to stay on the marked trails!!
Lincoln County Trails
Lincoln County's funded snowmobile trails (County Administrated Trails) are all open effective immediately. The segment of Corridor 19 (Zone 1) between Newwood Road and Four Mile Road is rerouted along these roads for the time being, watch for signs.
Clubs report the X Trail crossing Lake Alexander near Merrill is now open.
All trails are closed to winter ATV use when the temperature is above 28 degrees F.
Be aware of Trail Closed signs, stay on marked trails only and respect private land.
