Nicolet College 'Three for Free' and 'Nicolet Promise' Programs Returning Published on 12/02/2021 under News With the spring semester right around the corner, Nicolet College announced that they'll be bringing back two popular programs that make a college education more affordable.

The school announced the return of both their Three for Free and Nicolet Promise programs. The Three for Free program was created amid the pandemic to cover the tuition costs of three credits for students affected by the pandemic such as those who lost employment. Three for Free will be available for the upcoming spring term which opens January 5.

As for the Nicolet Promise, the program covers the entire cost of tuition for qualifying students once financial aide is removed. The Nicolet Promise launched in 2016. The next cycle will be available for the fall semester.

Katie Ourada, Nicolet admissions manager says, "While we are hopeful we are beginning to turn the corner on the pandemic, we're finding that many students are still struggling to pay for college." She notes, "These programs have helped many students in the past and we are delighted to still have funds available to help more students moving forward."

For more information, eligibility, and applications you can contact the college at (715) 365-4493 or visit the following links:

Update: Carbon Monoxide Identified as Cause of Crandon School Illnesses; Campus Closed through April 2
Published on 03/18/2024 under News Officials believe carbon monoxide was the source of an illness outbreak at the Crandon School Complex last week. As a result, the campus will be closed through the rest of the month. In a news release over the weekend, the School District of Crandon confirmed the illnesses were the result of elevated levels carbon monoxide connected to a mechanical issue with a furnace. The investigation began last Thursday afternoon when several students and staff members showed symptoms including lightheadedness, rapid heartbeat, and a shortness of breath. The buildings were evacuated and responders began to investigate. During that time approximately 39 patients were seen, including several EMS workers. Classes were canceled the following day. Over the weekend the district extended that closure through April 2. That includes next week's spring break. District Administrator Kirby Schultz says they are not only making necessary repairs to the furnace, but also undergoing a comprehensive cleaning of the facility including an inspection and maintenance of all HVAC components to ensure optimal performance and eliminate any potential sources of contamination. Schultz says, "Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff remains our utmost priority." In the coming days, the district says they will schedule time when students and staff can retrieve any belongings.

District Administrator Wendell Quesinberry covered the topic during his monthly visit to WJJQ morning conversation. The spring questionnaire is distributed to students, staff members, and district families in April. The goal is to provide raw data which helps guide strategic planning as well as recommendations and decisions for the district. Quesinberry noted that it was a past practice that was revitalized last year. He says they received a good data set from both staff and students, but he wanted to see the family participation increase. The district works with the firm School Perceptions to provide unbiased questions and data collection. Quesinberry says the survey will take about 5-10 minutes to complete and those few minutes provide valuable information to the district.
